Today's Assignment: Read the blog post. Comment. Today. Yes, that's Madonna. Yearbook Mini-Camp is
scheduled for
June 15-17 in H105. We will meet from 9-2 each day (lunch included) and
will cover everything you need to know for the 2010-2011 year. This is
for beginners and veteran staffers. Registration is open for camp.
Please fill
out this form. If you know people who are signed up for staff and
want to come to camp, please give them this URL so they can register: Don't
forget
Professional Development is due no later than June 1. If you want to
create your own professional development other than what is available at
NewsU, please see Wojo. NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES and JUNIORS: Sign up to work a two hour shift at the Multicultural Festival and get your professional development hours. Upside: all you have to do is talk about the yearbook, and hand out newspapers. Downside: if you don't show up, you have no professional development hours for the quarter. Have you paid for your hoody or t-shirt? Do not delay. Original announcement for pricing below: Final prices
for t's and hoodies:T-shirt: $18
(except for the
one 2XL shirt which is $22)Hoodie: $34They
are rushing the
order so that we can pick it up next week. Please have your payments
(cash, debit or credit) to Mrs. Kakihara by Monday.
No money for
shirts will be taken in class. Please make sure you leave your name with
Mrs. K so that I have the list of who has paid. I will pick up shirts
on Thursday evening. They will be distributed on Friday, May 28. You
should wear them. Note: why is it more than originally planned? We
ordered fewer shirts than expected so each person had to absorb a bit
more of the printing costs.Speaking of...we
really do need more people on staff. Ch'Kia brought in two new
recruits, but the rest of you are lagging. Please look around your
classes and find new people. We need people who are detail-oriented and
creative types. We need people with a good eye for design AND people who
can write. TUESDAY, JUNE 1: A period will become a WASC student focus group. ALL interested students are invited to attend (even people who aren't on staff). If you are not in A period and would like to attend, please see Wojo to get a pass (if you need one). Our purpose is to examine the WASC school/community profile, then determine the school's critical academic needs. Great Resume Builder: from the Contra Costa Times (5/19/10):We
are accepting applications for the 2010-11 Life in Perspective teen
board. We're looking for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who
are confident writers. Our goal is to include a wide spectrum of voices
from as many schools as possible. Board members must commit to
attending monthly meetings during the school year in Walnut Creek or
Oakland and to writing occasional stories and columns for the paper and
online. To download the application form, go hereor
here.
If you have questions, or need further assistance, contact
lip@bayareanewsgroup.com. Applications must be postmarked by July 7.For the remainder of this week and next non-staffers will not be in the room at lunch as you finish the last issue of the paper. Furthermore, if you have assignments that are outstanding, you are expected to be in the room at lunch working on your task. Attention Photographers: John Scott, professional photojournalist and yearbook adviser at Thomas Downey HS in Modesto, will be doing a photography track at Yearbook Camp at the end of July. He is a demanding, but outstanding instructor and your photography skills will grow by leaps and bounds in just two and a half days. He works with beginning, intermediate and advanced photographers. Photojournalism is photojournalism so it doesn't matter if you're more interested in newspaper or yearbook photography. If you are interested in attending camp July 30-August 1, see Wojo. Cost to current staffers will be about $100. The offer is open to incoming staffers as well, but they will need to see Wojo for pricing. |
