It's that time again...time for current events! Yes, we will be doing current events quizzes again this year. You will need to review the major news stories of the week (think political, social, national and international events, environmental, some entertainment, etc.). Take some time to read the news today. Your first quiz is next Friday, September 3. View these helpful hints to prepare: - watch the first 10 minutes of the evening news on television. The channel doesn't really matter.
- read respected news sites online. CNN, NYTimes, and other outlets are acceptable. TMZ is not.
- Read the New York Times print edition online. Yes, it's the complete paperUse the code 200278513 and log into http://eedition.nytimes.com
- Stay tuned for information on the SF Chronicle e-edition as well.
Remember to check the spreadsheet for your story assignments. Once you have your assignment, begin your story document discussed yesterday in class. That document should be shared with me well before class ends. You should also have the questions and interviewees sections completed.

You will need to check your announcements each day (even if you aren't at school). Recommendations: Staffers should have earphones that can be plugged into the computer. If you have them, you can watch video news and/or edit our own video news stuff. In the really goofy department (but it does make you think), view the video on the comparison between the Canon 7D and the Video Barbie. Equipment checkout contracts are ready. See Wojo if you will need to check out a camera. Davidson and Christian: You will need to work on your ads plan for this week and next. Leave instructions for Melissa. Also, you will need to recruit more people. Chloe and Chris: You will need to go through the pitches from A period and get those into the spreadsheet. |

Today is the last day that we'll all be together so there are no announcements. We'll do certificates and such in class. Today is distribution day too. " Where Journalism Begins" provides some interesting food for thought on why high school journalism is important. Read it. Leave a comment there if you wish. Remember to check your staff email during the summer! |
